West Melton Gymnastics Club is on the move!

17 Sep

Many of you may know this has been my passion for many, many years and so we are delighted and very excited to let you know the gym club will be moving to unit 8, 25 Illinois Drive.The committee has been extremely busy making this happen, so we still have some things to organize.We will be meeting this week and working out all the finer details so we will keep you posted as info comes to hand.We do realize the move will be a bit more inconvenient for some, travel wise but I assure you it will be worth it. We will be adding some more classes so you have more choices, so you will be given priority over times and days if something else suits you better. With that said, please see the announcement below and we will be in touch before the end of the week with more details.

Announcement

After much careful planning and consideration, we are delighted to share some very exciting news with our families – our Club is on the move!

We can confirm that from the start of Term 4 of 2018, the West Melton Gymnastics club will be operating from our very own dedicated gymnastics space at unit 8 no. 25 Illinois Drive, in the Izone subdivision!

As we hope our families will understand, we have not been able to openly discuss the possibility of a move further afield until we had the space secured, and this involved sensitive commercial negotiations.

In addition, there was also the important matter of wanting to ensure that our relationship with the new Community Centre was not compromised by our move.  We have always understood that our desire for more hours and space was going to be difficult to accommodate in the new Centre, especially given the need to give all existing and future community groups fair and reasonable access to the facility.  However, as we moved closer to the date for transitioning across, it began to become increasingly clear that our current requirements and future growth needs were going to be better suited to having a dedicated space of our own.

There were many factors in this decision, including a growing waitlist, requests to broaden the range of gymnastics activities on offer, a need for more hours and future requirements for space. Another important factor was the high likelihood that our equipment would need to be packed away and set up around our sessions, and we simply do not have enough volunteers to do this once a week, let alone each day!

The additional benefits associated with our move are many:

  • With the potential to offer more classes, Kyla Higgins has accepted a position as Assistant Head Coach, thereby securing our ability to offer an expanded range of classes across all grades;
  • We will also be able to realise a long-held dream of increasing the range of classes offered, with tumbling and trampolining being new for 2019.
  • We will be able to add further capacity and time to our school holiday programmes and will be developing offerings such as party programmes for kids who want an active birthday party!

We understand that the move will make getting to classes easier for some but add a little more time for others.  To that end, we will gauging interest shortly via an online survey re carpooling. Our committee will assist with putting families in touch with each other to organise these.

To make for a smooth transition, timekeeping for classes will be strictly adhered to, and class warmups will be performed at the start of each class (so no need to arrive 15 minutes early to class where this is currently a requirement for some).

So, with any minor inconveniences overcome, we hope you will all join us in supporting this move for the club.  We are moving into a very exciting period of growth which will see more opportunities created for our gymnasts, while at the same time retaining our small community-run club feel.  The new facility will enable us to offer more children the opportunity to experience gymnastics, while maintaining our current intimate class sizes and high coach to gymnast ratios.

We will be hosting an Open Day at the new facility with a sausage sizzle and a range of other activities planned for the celebration. We will advise a date for this soon.

A schedule of classes for Term 4, along with information on our other offerings will be released very soon and class bookings will be available at our website westmeltongymclub.nz/.

In the meantime, please feel free to contact Pam, Kyla or any member of the committee if you have any questions.  You can email us at westmeltongymclub@gmail.com or phone Pam 03 3181519 or 0273451713.
